SUMMARY
Goal-oriented Professional Engineer with 25 years of profit making
performance in product development. Outstanding skills in project
leadership and in hardware, software, network, and systems solutions.
Recognized for meeting dynamic project objectives over product life cycle.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
- SUN MICROSYSTEMS, Burlington, MA 2000-2004 --- Customer Training Instructor
- Highest student satisfaction rating for labs in the following classes:
- Intermediate/Advanced System Administration for Solaris 9 Operating System
- Network Administration for the Solaris 9 Operating System
- UNIX Essentials Featuring the Solaris 9 Operating System
- Perl Programming with CGI, Shell Scripting, and Java Programming
- AGILENT TECHNOLOGIES, Andover, MA 1998-2000 --- Information Systems Engineer
- Saved time and money by replacing paper documents with electronic
documents stored in a large UNIX file system. Documents were indexed
in an Oracle database, fetched with CGI scripts using SQL and Perl DBI,
and delivered via an Apache web server running on HP-UX.
- HEWLETT-PACKARD COMPANY, Andover, MA 1981-1997 --- Software Design Engineer
- Product Development
- Developed medical products which delivered real time patient
monitoring data to central station nursing staff. Real time embedded
multi-tasking software was written in C language and assembler
language, and cross compiled on HP-UX computers. Hardware platform
was based on the MC68000 family of microprocessors. Debugging
was done with HP Logic Analyzers. Product and processes met FDA
regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices, and ISO 9001. Designed
reliable networking protocols for LAN and for wireless telemetry.
- Project Leadership
- Improved productivity of ten person team by implementing Build
Control using the Revision Control System (RCS) and shell scripts.
Used rapid prototyping to demonstrate feasibility of Patient
Alarm Notification System to deliver patient alarms directly to
physicians via pagers. Initiated software design and code reviews
to speed projects and reduce defect rates. As part of HP Corporate
Engineering, led company wide effort to improve real time software
specification and design, to reduce software schedule slip rate to
zero, and to use Software Metrics to aid the management of software
projects.
- Problem Solving
- Quickly solved baffling product failures: 1)Why does the product
fail after exactly 24 minutes, 2) Why does the worldwide product
fail only in California, 3)Why does the product fail after exactly
30 days?
- ARTHUR D. LITTLE, INC., Cambridge, MA 1979-1981 --- Senior Staff Member
- Designed and implemented embedded real time software for the West
Bend Triple Timer.
- HEWLETT-PACKARD COMPANY 1966-1979 --- Development Engineer
- Project Leader for the HP 5326A/B/C Universal Counter/Timer/Digital
Volt Meter.
- BARTOL RESEARCH FOUNDATION, Swarthmore, PA 1963-1965 --- Cosmic Ray Physicist
- Installed and operated cosmic ray monitoring equipment at McMurdo
Sound, Antarctica.
